Tattoo Removal Aftercare
Initially the Laser Tattoo Removal treatment may create a superficial wound and some clients may experience bruising or swelling. Many clients may then develop blisters, crusts, or scabs within 12-72 hours, which may last for 1-2 weeks or more. This is all part of the healing process.
INSTRUCTIONS:
After 3 hours, remove the bandage gently and wash (shower) with warm water and mild soap. Gently pat dry the area.
Apply a thin film of antibacterial cooling ointment such as Laser Aid when needed.
If blistering has occurred do not knock or intentionally pop the blister. Keep blisters covered with a sterile dressing if they are in an area that may rub or be uncomfortable while wearing clothes. You may see your tattoo colour come out with the blistering which is very normal.
Keep the treated area clean and dry while it is healing as much as possible.
PRECAUTIONS:
If the treated area is on the lower leg (especially the ankle or foot) elevate the leg as much as possible for the next 48 hours.
Stay out of sunlight, tanning booths & avoid using all tanning products until the area is healed.
If in direct sunlight - apply 30+ sunscreen for at least 3 months following the treatment.
Do not soak the area in a bath tub, spa, sauna or go swimming while the area is healing. Showers are fine.
Blistering:
Some patients may experience some form of blistering with any properly executed laser tattoo removal treatment. It is your body responding to the friction type injury by the laser. On occasions these blisters can get fairly large including covering the entire area treated by the laser. Blisters can look intimidating but are actually great for the removal process because they remove a lot of ink and heal up beautifully. Most blistering is gone in one week although occasionally it can last up to two weeks. Lighter skin tones, first treatments and bright colourful tattoos may increase your risk for blistering (tattoos with lighter colours require the use of a 532nm wavelength laser which tends to blister more).
Itchiness:
The treated area may become itchy, even once all signs of healing are no longer visible. Staying hydrated and keeping the skin moisturized regularly will help with any discomfort caused by the itchiness. On rare occasions clients can be allergic to the tattoo pigment in their skin and itchiness can become unbearable. Please contact us if you experience any severe itchiness for further instructions.
